Some of the 140's can be seen sporting forward-facing tubes attached to the gas caps. For the Lycoming-STC'ed engined planes, the STC stated that forward facing tubes are necessary. For the other planes, this article points out some of the risks and results of using or misusing the forward facing caps.
They are cute, and they do make the plane appear more "retro".
