2024 Convention, Poplar Grove

Post by V529 »

Another fine Cessna 120/140 Convention is in the books. Ken and Lorraine Morris did an Excellent job hosting and arranging a noteworthy event for the rest of us to enjoy.
For once we had perfect weather throughout the convention, except for the Southeast of the country, most folks had perfect VFR weather.
Poplar Grove Airport is a thriving Airport community with 400 or so airplanes based there.
There was always an airplane landing or taking off, we were never short of “hey, look at that!” (Waco, Stearman, Cub, homebuilt, vision jet, etc and so on……….)you name it and it was probably there.
The airport accommodations were top shelf, we had a large EAA hangar to set up shop in and get out of the sun and catch up with old friends or meet new ones. Multiple lines of aircraft gave everyone a chance to view aircraft, compare similarities and differences.
A flyout to see an actual B-17 restoration in process. (Golly……… a lot of parts…….and work!)
A picture of Austin Revlett who won “Judges choice” and “Best Modified 140A”. Austin started with an aft section of a fuselage (cabin only!) and built an airplane from parts. An amazing story and an amazing airplane and a fine young man to get the “parts” back flying again.
A few pics of the journey and on the Airport they had relocated an old Auto garage. For reasons unknown I acquired the Nickname ‘Slim’ years ago…………….I finally located my business!
If you have any interest, any interest at all in attending a convention, you will see similar (but amazingly different) aircraft, meet new friends and visit cool places (airports too!).
Next years convention will be at Creve Coure in St. Louis. It’s inside Lamberts Class B so you’ll need ADS-B and a radio. Creve Coure is an over the top GA airport similar to Poplar Grove, but more condensed. A must see airport for any aircraft enthusiast!
