2020 Davenport Convention

Post by 6898 »

Just a update on convention ; We the board and our convention host Vince & Denise have been monitoring / changing venues as needed. As of now convention is still ON, but our ever changing environment as we know , things can change so stay posted and tell others to monitor the website for news. I would like to hear some of your concerns and how your area along with your airport are dealing with this epidemic? Stay well and safe Jeff

Does anyone know when the hold on the hotel rooms expire. Carol and I will be there to keep our string going.

After serious thought, re-evaluation and heavy hearts the Board has elected to Cancel this years Convention.

With the increasing Covid infections, the fact that the venues that the hosts had selected closing down or not allowing visitors, the host airport deciding to perform September runway rehab and additionally the airport was not going to allow us to use their facilities for on the airport meetings, and numerous other reasons the 2020 Convention was looking like a guaranteed failure.

We've all elected to re-group next year, with quite possibly the same site for the convention but hopefully with a whole new outlook on health and the world.

Please understand this decision did not come about without serious soul searching and discussion.

Thanks Victor for the update. I appreciate the board's and our host's efforts to try to salvage the situation but sounds like this is the best call. I'll miss seeing everyone but I will look forward to next year. This will at least give me more time to polish. :D

Victor, thank you for your announcement, and Board members, thank you for your diligence and decision making work. You are right in line with many other annually scheduled but now cancelled aviation events.

Cancelling or postponing an important commercial event is tough enough, but nixing a true "family reunion" is among the toughest. Good call, folks. ...hard to believe, but it's been almost 30 years since Vince & Denise first hosted us @ Davenport (they were probably in their early teens then & still haven't aged much :!: ). Special thanks to both for what we know is a lot of work and prep that's already been done as well as to our officers for the focus on just doing the right things, right. We'll look forward to the possibility of returning to Davenport next year! Mac & Donna

Mac, as usual you said what we needed to hear. The convention is a “family reunion” and hugs are required. Our world right now is home and the airport as we try to outmaneuver this virus. Matt is busy flying 40 hours off his “green Pitts”.
