After 4.5 years of butting heads with the FAA on my medical, and another 5 months on an engine overhaul, I am finally flying again, did a few hours today on break-in and all is well so far. Had a little help/encouragement/parts/upholstery work from Randy Thompson, John Cooper, Mac Forbes, and Lorraine Morris, thanks gang!
I did 95% of the assembly, had the case DIVCO'ed, new Millenium cylinders, new lightweight starter, etc. Was a great hands on experience that I would recommend to anyone with the interest and a willing A&P/IA to guide you along.
Happiness is a fresh overhaul

I'm reminded that for many years there was a "perseverance award" @ an annual aviation event for those who had accomplished a major project during the year. You could qualify for a related award ++++ as the poster guy for "perseverance" over the past several(!) years, Dave. The engine OH is a biggie, for sure (looks great!), but your willingness to understand and successfully navigate the systems & overcome challenges to earn your seat back into the cockpit is legendary. Amen to John's congratulations!!

That's a manifold pressure fitting, previous owner put one in probably 30 years ago, something to play with for me.

Dave,
Seriously, ............Congratuations, all that you've been through! A new engine is almost kinda of like an expensive present to yourself.
