Another interesting twist on who owns what technology. The business model of, if you can't beat them, you buy them, or run them out of town. Garmin will probably lose this suit,, but by then, Uavionix will be out of money......and business. Shameful. Apple and Microsoft operate in the same manner.

Yes very regrettable. Some entity comes up with what looks to be great solutions to expensive technology requirements imposed on us by new law. Then some bigger entity comes in and ruins the party, laying partial claim to the idea but not getting in on the profits. Once again, no one cares about the little guy at the lower end of aviation (Cessna 120 owners like myself) who thought this was daylight at the end of a dark tunnel. Once again, every one loses to that great achilles heel of capitalism, greed.

...probably not a real contradiction -- more likely a proofreading slip, but interesting the apparent contradiction in the AOPA article and uAvionix's indication that the SkyBeacon has already earned TSO:

uAvionix website: "...$1849 – TSO Certified Shipping September 2018"

AOPA 08/21 article: "...uAvionix has said that it expects FAA TSO approval of its easily installed skyBeacon wingtip position light and ADS-B transmitter in the near future"


I'm personally acquainted with one of the uAvionix co's incredibly talented team members & have solid confidence in both the integrity of their products and their strong focus on doing the right things, right. Great people, great products. I've harbored some concern all along that they might have seemed a bit naïve in seemingly dismissing a possibility that some (all?) of the "established Big Guys" would stand idly by while the "Beacons" swooped in to potentially take a major piece of the ADS-B market & emerging "rush". Here's hoping that reason will prevail, greed will diminish and a great "OUT" answer will, indeed, be readily available to "us" at a reasonable price. While I tired of waiting & forged ahead with an alternative to the Beacon(s), my confidence in both the product(s) and the skillful, enthusiastic folks who have developed it remains intact and I'm excitedly anticipating a lot of wingtips/rudders with those nifty little jewels demonstrating some incredibly impressive ingenuity! ...here's hoping. "Amen".................unfortunately.

Same thing happened with my old LORAN system. II Morrow became Apollo with their 612 LORAN. Installed one in my140. Worked great, except a few times flying in rain. Garmin didn't like the Apollo competition, so Garmin bought them out. That LORAN box became the Garmin AT.
