Happy summer everyone! Hotter than …. here in AZ! Question for all you plane campers. I’m planning a real cross country for next summer and would like to know what tent you’re carrying in your plane. Also any other suggestions for other equipment to carry along for the trip. It will be just me flying with 2 other planes from AZ to OSH, Maine, Kitty Hawk, Key West, back to AZ.
Thanks for your input!

John

Hello John,

I’d opt for one of the 2 person lightweight hiking tents that weigh in at 4-5 pounds, small and compact enough to store in the baggage compartment of a C-140A. Additionally, invest in a good air mattress or rollup egg shell sleeping pad along with a good sleeping bag (nights up in Maine even in the summer can be quite brisk). Finally look into one of those small Jackery rechargeable battery units. You can use solar to recharge it, and it can recharge your cell phone, provide power for a light as well other items.

Hey John..

Same as Mike's recommendation, any quality 2-3 person backpacking tent works great.

I picked up a Marmot Catalyst 2P several years ago on sale at a local REI for roughly $150, it makes about a perfect 140-sized solo tent, weighs about 6lb and the best part is I can set it up and take it down in under 10 minutes.

Looks like they might have since moved on to a newer model but I'd buy similar again.
