I know it sounds crazy in the age of GPS, but as some may know, DME is still required when flying IFR in Europe. I try to covert a 140 into an IFR trainer and are therefore intending to install a DME. Is there anybody who has a DME in the panel of a 140?
Thank you for your help!

Re: DME?
Does European IFR require a separate DME radio or can the DME function be incorporated in a panel mounted GPS like a Garmin 430 for example. I've routinely used a 430 as (4) four different radios in one. (1) Communications, (2) VOR/ILS, (3) GPS, and (4) DME.

Re: DME?
Good point! Thank you for your comment. The DME function is legally sufficient. An integration with e. g. a GNS-430 which sets the frequency (by selecting a VOR or ILS frequency) and shows the DME value, is possibility and saves some display space.

Re: DME?
If it does not need to have actual DME and can substitute GPS position for distances the slim 175/335/375 navigators could be a good choice. Have a 175 in a 120 and works well. No ILS though so if that’s needed the GTN650 would be a good choice. Plus it can control a remote txp saving more space.
