C120 LED Beacon Replacement

Post by vindio »

Hello all. Our 120 has a white strobe light installed on the belly, finally looking to upgrade to a red LED beacon light. According to the logbook it is an FS 4400 unit, would anyone be able to offer an easy LED replacement?

Looks like it might be a Universal FS 4400. Your log books should say exactly what it is.

To convert from strobe to LED you will need to replace the entire unit. To do so shouldn't be a big deal; they all mount about the same way.

Does it still work? If so, you may be able to sell it and recoup some of your expenses.

Thanks, just confirmed with the logbook it is a FS 4400 unit, if there is a direct replacement I would certainly be all over that.

Check Whelan in Spruce catalog- Ill bet they have a "drop-in" repacement. Bit of history, the mounting configuration started more than 50 years ago with the old rotating beacons that used two IIRC 40watt bulbs and migrated into the strobes to facilitate easy upgrade market, as in your case.

Just confirming what Prof John C said, not that it was needed but a chance to give a history lesson! :D

Replaced our FS 4400 unit with a aeroLED beacon pretty easy swap.
