airtex carpet changing color

Post by 7524 »

Hello all,
I have a C140A, and I installed airtex carpet, door panels, and overhead in early 2020. The color was silver but now it is more like a very light brown color. I keep my plane in a hangar, not out in the sun. The color change has taken place uniformly on the cockpit floor, hat shelf, and baggage area. Has anyone else experienced this?

I have the same problem. Complete interior done in 1993 in a beautiful blue but thru the years
the carpet, baggage compartment, head liner, and panel pad have also slowly turned a light brown.
It is only the carpet material that has turned. Seats and door panels are still the beautiful blue.
My 140 has never been outside. I never came up with an answer. What would cause this to occur?

I'm having a problem with the backing on my airtex carpet breaking down. Removing it for annual inspection and finding the black backing stuck to the the aluminum floor underneath. The carpet is less than 10 years old. Airplane is kept in a well insulated hangar. Airtex offered no explanation, and does not have a similar color for replacement.
