I have a 1946 Cessna 140 that someone put duct tape on the leading edge of the wings. It's been on there a long time.
What is the best way to clean off the glue left behind. I tried using a heat gun but that just quickly separated the top of the tape from the glue. I've also tried napptha (lighter fluid) and alcohol. I'm afraid it is going to be a long process to remove but thought I'd ask if anyone else has been through this and had success.

I would try "Goo Gone". I've used it before on cars and it didn't affect the paint. No guarantee on aircraft...

I tried that and then saw that since it was oil based it was a no no on fabric wings. It didn’t help much anyway.

I wouldn't think it would harm the fabric any more than engine oil or avgas would, but if you already tried it and it didn't work, then I'm all out of suggestions.
[Edit] Don't confuse "Goo Gone" with "Goof Off"; the latter would probably strip the finish right off.

How about fresh duct tape? Lay it down then peel it off at an acute angle?
