Re: Tank Selector
I did mine in situ. I don't remember how; it was over 20 years ago...

Re: Tank Selector
I tried some thin wall sockets at lunch today without luck. If I knew the bonnet size I might be able to turn down a socket to make it fit.
Honestly though, I may just wait till annual time. I really don't want to take it all the way out at this point, and the idea of metal shards everywhere from opening the hole doesn't sit well with me.
Thanks for the help guys.

I recall there is, but, fortunately, it's not mine!

Re: Tank Selector
Finally got to doing mine today... clearly a poor choice as two different part stores here in Anchorage are closed on the weekend.
The reason for my overhaul was it was actually leaking, quite the strong fuel smell in the cabin and a slow puddle growing underneath the a/c when it was parked.
Somewhere in time it had been improperly assembled. The two o-rings were present in place of the packing as per David's picture; however, the washer that keeps the o-rings in place at the top of the spring was missing. One of the the o-rings had actually worked its way halfway down the spring.
Does anybody have a part number or recommendation for the washer. Best exploded view of the selector I have seen is in 354B, looks relatively the same as what I had in front on me and my A&P was using it for reassembly guidance.... just holding on parts currently.

Re: Tank Selector
You guys are making my head hurt...
There's a piece missing in Dave's photo. The washer shown in his is the counterbored washer shown in the piper SB and faces down against the detent washer. The spring sits on the flat part of that washer. There is a second washer on the top of the spring that is chamfered on the side facing the packing and that's why the packing is angled on both ends (one from the chamfered washer and the other from the chamfer inside the nut.) The Piper SB appears to show a flat washer, but that is not what should be in our valves. (We, of course, did not have an O-ring, either, originally.)
