Air Intake Hoses

Post by 7950 »

Really simple question. I forgot to sketch / photo the scat hose connections when removing my exhaust for its replacement.

So the question is - on the side where cold air enters the muffler ( left side from the front ) and routes then to the carb air intake...

See attached figure - Do I use route A or B for carb hot air ? Mine is a Hanlon Wilson System like this

Do I connect the cold air pipe to the top or bottom of the muffler and ditto with the hot air exit pipe. Does it matter ? I have a vision that connecting the cold air to the lower connection on a muffler will force the air to rise to exit as hot air into the carb air box and also mean that any crud stays in the exhaust by force of gravity rather than falling towards the carb hot exit.

Good question.

Example "A" is the most prevalent from what I've seen. It shouldn't matter from an "airflow" direction, since the air inside the heat muff doesn't care if it's going with or against prevailing winds.

I would look at the scatt routing inside the cowling, that usually seems to be the determining factor, space is an issue and "A" does the cleanest job of handling that.
