I have been trying to track down a fuel smell in the cockpit and I have determined it is the fuel vent crossover tube.
Does anybody have a photo or photos of what that area looks like when it isn’t covered up by the headliner?

Hi Elliot,
while working on mine before getting it ready for the new headliner I found it broken. I had a friend of mine weld it and then I put new hoses on it.
Yours could either be broken or possibly the hoses just cracked from age.

Fixed mine this weekend and the fuel smell is gone!
Does anyone know if these parts are factory? Is the "49" on the tubing a date code for 1949?

Most likely - most "quality" rubber goods have some type of manufacture date coding on them - think shelf life, etc and even auto tires are coded.

So the smell turned out to be from the cracked hoses?

Thanks for the info.
Just to be clear that longitudinal slit is something I did with a razor blade in order to get them off. But they were pretty brittle.
I think the fuel smell came from the clamps not being tight enough -- not sure what tool would be used to tighten them anyway. Replaced them with worm gear clamps and replaced the hoses; all better!
