On one of the other strings at this forum related to useful loads, someone removed one of their two landing lights to reduce weight. Maybe it's available?

I won it! I guess all that wait was worth it. We'll see if it works but the price was only $215. Very happy with that. Steve

Well, I'm happy for you!

I'll have to stop by and visit you in Choctaw some day. We go to OKC occasionally from the McAlester area, so I may try to coordinate a visit on one of the trips.

If it doesn't work. Avlite is a very good source for repairs. They're not cheap. I sent them a basket case landing light from a 1943 Stinson Reliant. I honestly didn't think they could fix it. It came back looking like new with a sealed beam light and a new motor. The cost was N of $1,000 but worth it since we at the museum, www.yankeeairmuseum.org, were preparing the V-77 for sale.

OK I received the light. It looks like it is in decent shape.

Question: How do you remove the bulb? Seems locked in pretty tight. Not even sure how it connects. Apart from the Maintenance Manual, does anyone have any diagram of the light, its parts, and disassembly or can explain how it comes apart? The last thing I want to do is break it having waited nearly a year to find one. Thanks in advance for any assistance.

On the main web page under Resources-Documents I put a Grimes overhaul manual years ago.

Bulb is held in by a retainer clip around the edge, you can see it has tabs that I’ve been told are easy to break. if I were to remove it, I think I’d let it soak with PB Blaster overnight and push in on the center of the bulb when you are prying the clip together so you take the force off of the clip.
I assume that clip is hard to find, if the bulb works, I’d leave sleeping dogs lie.

I just got through taking mine apart to grease the gears, it’s rather easily taken apart with a lot of care taken in its design to be disassembled with spring loaded contacts etc instead of just wires. You will see what I mean.
I believe you should take it apart and clean and degrease the gearing and clean the contacts etc. it’s likely the grease dried out decades ago.

I recall you have to push the bulb in to get the clip to pass over the lip around the edge of the bulb.
