The tailwheel is mainly to keep the spring from dragging on the ground and making a lot of noise.

I don't think you can even get a new Scott 3200. Alaskan Bushwheel makes a copy, but it's very pricey ($1178). Used ones are a crap shoot; you may spend enough fixing it up to buy new. (If you're going to fix something, the one you have may be the most cost effective option.)

The Lange tail wheel used to be the bargain, until they doubled the price ($890).

First, decide if you want pneumatic or solid. For Pneumatic, I'd say the only option to consider is the Alaskan Bushwheel 3200. For solid, the Lang is a good product, or fix up the Maule you have.

Bottom line: a $2000 tail wheel won't make you a better pilot.
Thanks! all that you say make sense! I would rather spend the money on harnesses... I posted that the first night in, Jack had only landed her once at that point, and by a couple into it he was thinking his first thought wasn't correct that he had been a bit presumptuous on that that thought. He said a friend of his had that one and it just didn't hold up well that it was always getting a shimmy, but from what I'm reading that can happen with any not properly rigged. I'm not sure of specific model-log books haven't arrived yet, I shipped them home heavily insured, did the same thing with the wheel pants. He's now thinking let it be, he said he thinks his first thoughts were just from not being familiar with plane. He said it takes a bit more dancing on the pedals than his Super Cub but not bad at all. He did all the take offs and landing on way home, I flew it whole way once in air, I start training on Monday for actual TW skills. :) I'm really really geeked to learn how to be a "no training wheel required" pilot. I plan on putting a lot of extra time in around the patch once signed off, I want to be as proficient as possible flying my new baby girl... I'm smitten no doubt!
