Any tips on wing removal for transport?
Just acquired a project C-140 that will need to be disassembled and trailered home. I’ve never pulled the wings on a rag wing C-140 before. Is it just pull fairings and covers, disconnect usual items, loosen turnbuckles and pull cables inboard, etc. like on a C-150? Any tips, tricks, or gotchas to watch out for? How much time should it take? I only have two helpers for half a day. Any advice welcomed and appreciated! Thanks in advance...

I did the same thing about a year ago. Sounds like you have all the bases covered. Used a six foot step ladder and a folded moving blanket for temporary support after loosening spar and strut bolts and removing all the nuts and washers. Next removed the strut bolts and strut. Removed spar bolts and then worked the wing out of its housings. Had two of us on wing root and one at the tip. With three people it made it easy to keep things supported properly to avoid tweaking something you shouldn’t.

If you remove the ailerons while the wings are still on remember they have a weight on the outboard side that if you aren't careful you will bend a fitting, don't ask how I know...

When you disconnect the lift struts from the wings, don't be tempted to lay the outboard ends on the ground. They won't pivot that far without damaging the skin where they enter the fuselage. Tie strings to the cables before you pull them out of the wings to help pull them back.

I just removed and replaced a wing on my metalized 140. I found that raising the tail so the wing is nearly level made the job a lot easier.
