Hello, I’m considering purchasing a 140. I owned one 20 years ago and decided to buy another.

The one I’m looking at now has four recurring AD’s.

AD 47-50-02 fuselage rear bulkhead,
AD 48-07-01 Stabilizer attach bolts,
AD 48-25-03 wing drag wires,
AD 76-07-12 Bendix ignition switch

Can these be permanently addressed? Should they be?

To clarify the question, it sounds like you want to know if anything can be done to fix the problem and never have to do the Annual/100 hour AD inspection on them again.

On the Fuselage rear bulkhead AD, Yes. If the doubler is installed.

If I am reading the Stabilizer attach bolt and Wing drag wire ADs, the inspection never goes away as written.

I don't know about the Bendix switch. I will have to do more research.

I saw that the Bendix one I can sign off myself as the pilot after doing the check.

I noticed your thread regarding the doubler. How much was Unvair asking for the part? Is it an easy install?

These are all inspection items. Call me old fashioned, but. if you're inspecting the airplane, they should probably be looked at regardless of the AD. Either way, they do not appreciably add to the burden of the inspection.

Gosh I wonder why we only sell one a year?
And from what I could tell you have to purchase the bulkhead along with the doubler.
I did not think to ask if they would sell just the doubler.
My guess would be no, but one could ask.

As far as installation goes. Since I have the fin and horizontal stabilizer off already it looks like I can take the panel just above it loose and be able to get at it relatively easily. I will fabricate my own doubler and save a good deal of money.
If you have to crawl through the tail to do it it would be a real stinker.

True on the items in question being looked at during every inspection.
I assume he meant having to do a separate sign off for those particular items.

Adding the doubler should alleviate the chance of the crack in question from every starting.

If the airplane is not opened up already, it would definitely Not be worth the effort.

Sort of. In the log entry for the annual inspection you write "Complied with ADs 47-50-02, 48-07-01, 48-25-03, and 76-07-12 by inspection." then you write when they are next due.

I guess it depends on how far apart things are, and how much you have to spring for the parts. The inspection is essentially free.

I was mostly concerned about having to do additional inspections if I fly more than 100 hours a year. I’d probably end up doing about 100 per year and do it at the annual.

I also found out that the ceconite wings were done in 1981 so that’s another concern I have now.
I think the plane might be overpriced by a few thousand. I’d want to add a Uavionix Skybeacon which would add another couple thousand to the price.

Looks nice. Question: If the plane has a Skytec starter, what's the big silver T-Handle in the panel? Should be a push-button?

I also like the landing/taxi light in the leading edge of the wing.
