My plane has been laid up for longer than I care to admit, due to a number of things, but it all started when I needed a pair of new top rudder hinges, pn 0433114. They're reasonably simple bent up aluminum, and Cessna wanted something like $120 each. Being part Scottish, this was a huge impediment for me.
I searched around for a pair of good used ones, but they all were hogged out where the hinge bolt goes, the same problem as mine. I figure I'd make some, but wasn't happy with the results. Time went by and the project got pushed farther and farther down in the pile.
A couple of weeks ago a good friend of mine lit a fire under my butt, so I decided this was the year to get my Basic Med taken care of (a whole other story) and get the plane back in the air. So, I searched around for the parts. I found a place than had 17 of them, new surplus, and was willing to let them go for about half price ($59 each) Still a total rip-off, to my Gaelic mind, but better than $120 plus inflation.
So, they have 15 left. If you're in the same boat, or just like to hoard parts, call KRN Aviation Services at 800 366-6462. (I get no kick backs...)
Please don't respond to this thread withe something like "I just found a place selling them for $19.95..."

I got faith in ya! You can do it! Now you know what's going to happen, as you piece that bird back together you're going to get the "Might as wells"(do this AND that)
KRN has been good to me over the years, as well as Preferred in Ohio and Williams in Kendalville Indiana. (they specialize in wing and flight control rebuilding but do have an amazing stock of old and odd airframe parts)
So if you "were" in John C's boat...........there are great sources for you!

It appears KRN is out of business. Terrible loss if this is true. Their inventory (and search tool) is so valuable. Anyone able to confirm?
EDIT: I see Preferred has an equally good inventory search.

Their web site is still up and running. There is a banner that says "We are working on something really big. Check back here for more information…", otherwise it looks normal. Did you try contacting them?
