I am a student pilot that has purchased a 1946 140 with vortex generators installed.
Can anyone with experience with them tell me the differences in flight-langing-takeoff characteristics.
Advantages- disadvantages.
Perferred flap use for short field takeoff.

Have C140 c85 with vortex generators. If I had to do over again would not have put them on. The only real advantage is a slower landing and not by much. The stalls are a non issue with a 140 so not much of a change there. Had to learn how to three point all over again. Bounced it all over the runway for the first dozen landing and then go the hold off down. When the tail would drop then it would fly again. When I go into short fields, will put a seat pad on so can see over the front better. Have planted the tail wheel nose high and not been able to see down the run way. Ailerons work better at low speed and the tail seems to also. Remember that flaps are speed brakes and not much more than that. My short and soft field takeoffs do not evolve flaps. Most of my landing are three point. The extra low speed control make these easier in a cross wind. Still will wheel land if gusty. The aircraft will want to fly off if tail is dropped to soon. My first C120 with extenders is a three point takeoff wonder and easier to wheeler land. The C140 with vortex is better at wheel takeoffs and three point landing.
Go fly and learn.
