Does anyone have a good C85-12 accessory case? Divco failed mine.

I'm in Stockton, California.

Gary

Been there...mine failed @ DIVCO recently. After an exhaustive(!) search I would have been happy (well, kinda  ) to find and buy a new case -- at the time, absolutely none available! I did finally locate one "serviceable" (Ebay) and it worked out well...but, that's always a gamble. FWIW, there's one at Texas Air Salvage (https://www.texasairsalvage.com/files-2 ... 134639.JPG) that was very tempting -- from photos it appears to be NOS + never installed. IF that's fact, and IF there's no imperfection, it's a bargain @ $595.00. As I recall, they were not helpful in terms of measuring the pump clearance nor would they send additional photos...but, they did offer to share name(s) of local IAs who "might" be willing to visit and inspect, at a fee, of course. (They will not guarantee and will not accept returns.) The other "option" would be to purchase and have it shipped to DIVCO...or, of course, just purchase, install (w/IA OK) and "hope" it's as good as it appears(?). Otherwise, trying to order new from Spruce, Aircraft Specialties, etc. and etc. may save a lot of time and effort IF available now...or, just watch Barnstormers and Ebay. Finally, just maybe someone "around here" will hop in with a good one that's in their supply of parts. Sorry I can't be of more help, Gary. Mac

I don't think it's new. Note the pitting on the oil tank mating surface. Unless they were willing to ship it to a third party (Divco) for evaluation, or you can get someone you trust to put eyes on it, I think I'd pass.

Agree. In talking to an individual @ TAS they shared that it came from a "31016 Inventory Liquidation Purchase". This person opined that it may be "NOS", but no guarantees. They will not send out to DIVCO on their dime -- any inspection will be at buyers expense & no returns accepted, for any reason. To the purchase cost, adding shipping, DIVCO fees and the real possibility that it's actually junk made it too much of a gamble for me. ...hope I didn't appear to be recommending. TAS (and other "salvagers") do have other used cases but, again, one should add the cost of qualified inspection at least, and overhaul at most, + shipping to ultimately prove "serviceable". The #6726 & evolved numbers for these Continental acc'y cases "new" cost are prob $2,000.00+ these days. IF new are available now, that may not be all that much more than "used" & more practical when all costs are factored in? Mac

I'm not at home right now so I can't check. Will an O-200 accessory case work on a C85-12?

Yes, they should fit any of the -12. -14, -16 (and a few other odd) engines. The key is whether it had a starter and generator or not (-8)

I recall that the most recent case #s may not be drilled for mechanical tach, and some of those on earlier 150s may have a drilled/threaded "oil return". Plugging the oil return is simple and I was told that a machine shop could drill for the mechanical tach on a new/low time that I found...but, there again, extra $$$ started piling up to "make that one work". Otherwise, they (most/many numbers for 0-200s) should be the same and will fit & work perfectly. The folks @ Spruce & Aircraft Specialties are very helpful in sorting out the numbers. Mac

...just a bit more, from web (2006):

This is the history of the accessory cases:
1) 6714
2) 6726A1
3) 627307A10 for O-200, supersedes 6726 for C-75, C-85, C-90 (except - 8)
4) 649921A1
5) 653474A1
6) 653679A1
7) 653679A5
(Each supersedes the previous one -- there are prob more supersedes since this was published in '06. Again, a distributor can help sort out the numbers that'll fit/function...as indicated already, most, in fact, will.)

Thanks! Where did you find that?
