Air Box

The nut wore through the arm on my air box, so my carb heat no longer works.
I know there are repair kits from McFarlane for overhauling the box. I'm not set up for welding/brazing etc so the thought crossed my mind to get a new box so I can get back to flying then slow roll the repair on this old box and use it for my project engine I'm building up.
HOWEVER, Univair and Fresno's box has a really long tube below the box. https://www.fresnoairpartsco.com/product/a50256-airbox/
Ours (or at least mine and another 120 I checked) are very short tubes below the boxes. I'm very sure that the part sold by Univair/Fresno would interfere with the cowling. Just cut it off? Has anyone else attempted to deal with this?
