Born on Date

Well I don’t know why I am just now seeing this but I do not have a born date for my 49 C140A. I do not have logbook number one, the FAA shows an airworthiness date of 3/56, the data plate inside does not have a mfg. date and the FAA records show it was sold from Cessna in June 1949 as N9419A. Any ideas where the original manufacturing date could be found or at least a place to begin researching it. Oh and holler if you run across logbook number one for N9419A. Lol. Thanks all.

I have a 47 model. The date of manufacture is on the data plate. Cessna May be able to provide the date of manufacture.

"Back then" a new airworthiness certificate was issued at each annual inspection. 1956 was the year that changed. (That's why they used to call it "relicensing".)
If you get the FAA records CD, you should get a copy of the original equipment list, weight and balance, application for airworthiness certificate and the actual certificate. They all are dated and should correspond to the date on the data plate.

It sounds like you don't have the original data plate? The original data plate will have an MAA number. (I'm traveling.....and it's early.......I think that's what it's listed as......) Cessna needs that number for your records. The aircraft will not be cataloged by N number or s/n............Unfortunately. Try John's record approach first, then try tech support.

Both of my fellow moderators have given some sound advice. I also do not have the first logbook on one of my 140A's; however, as John has mentioned the CD of the aircraft records does show date information on my particular aircraft when Cessna transferred the aircraft at the time of sale to the original purchaser, McCreery Aviation in McAllen, TX. Cessna 140A data plates are located on the LH door post and do not show the date of manufacture as was previously done on earlier 140 series aircraft. Victor has a very good suggestion that you can contact Textron Aviation with the MAA number to get more specifics. BTW N9688A my first 140A has a manufactured date of 1952 on FAA records, but records on the CD indicate February 1950.
