Question: Is the 1949 A model cowl bowl the same as earlier models? A friend has a '49A. The previous owner had a Vacum pump installed. It has been removed and they would like to make it original again. Short of making a patch, they would like to order a new bowl or find one to replace the current one.
Thank you !

According to the parts catalogs, the 140A nosebowl (0452184-48) is the same part number as the 1948 140 from sn 14365.
It looks like the sheet metal is the same on all 1947 and later 120s, 140s and 140As. the grills are different, and the 1946 sheet metal is different. Later sheet metal is 0452185.

Probably the most expensive route....
And...the least expensive route is to get a good sheet metal individual who can patch the area that was cut away for the vacuum pump.
Another route would be to contact David Lowe (he may have a spare lower cowling bowl as maybe Ken and Lorraine Morris at Taildragger Aviation.

I'm pretty sure the nose bowl is a weldable alloy. If so, a good welder could patch it up and you'd never know...

If the poster isnt talking about me then someone else with a 49 is in the same boat. Univair doesn’t seem willing to stand by their statement that the bowl will work on a 49 140A. I have not found where the part numbers match up like one person claimed to have seen so i would really like to hear more or a reference to which parts manual. As of now I will eventually have one of the top warbird restorers patch the cutout unless I cans feel sure that the new nose bowl will absolutely work. Thanks for all the input.

If you're talking about me, I got the numbers from the Cessna 120 and 140 parts manual and the 140A parts manual.

it isn't original look, but is there enough room to mount a light ( landing, taxi or strobe)
