Brake assembly question.

Post by shanemazz »

Hello all,

My right brake was leaking, so it started me down the path of getting them cleaned and squared away. When replacing the O-ring and getting it all cleaned up we noticed cracks on the housing from somebody over torquing the bolts in the past. I’m going to take the opportunity to change them out along with the discs and pads. But I’m struggling to know which ones to hunt down.
I’m pretty sure I have McCauley brakes, but I’m not sure what P/N to aim at. After getting them all cleaned up I can’t find any data plate.
Inside the piston housing is “C-30020” but I can’t find that part number in any McCauley/Cessna things. Would C-30018 be the assembly I need to buy? Also curious about the discs and linings that goes with these. I’m hoping C-30018 assemblies and the corresponding discs will work, I can’t find anything mentioning C-30020.

Thanks for the help!

I wish I could confirm that for you, it looks like you are viewing the Cleveland catalog and this below looks to be the same but even though Cleveland supposedly bought out McCauley brakes I understand that they may not be exact fit parts. Anyone in the peanut gallery know anything else? I don't have any cross references for the old McCauley numbers to Cleveland.

Give a call to Cleveland (Parker). They have always been helpful.

1-800-BRAKING

If you look at the listing for the C-30018 assemblies, the notes indicate that the housing and piston are inactive and not supported. I suspect you're either going to have to find a used part, or replace the entire brake assembly. The good news is you'll probably be able to reuse the wheels, disks, and maybe the torque plates.

They refer you to Cessna Service Bulletin SEB00-5 and Cessna Service Kit SK182-120 (Hint: the brake assembly in SK182-120 may be a suitable replacement...)

Thanks for the help everyone!

I have found some replacement assemblies and they are enroute. I think you guys are right though, next time through this project will be a replacement/upgrade for the wheels and brakes on the little 140.
