I have a 1946 140. Back in the 1960's Cleveland Wheels were put on the aircraft.
What is the rationale, why are CW so popular. Where the original wheels not so good?

The Goodyear brakes were maintenance intensive and the parts to maintain them got more and more expensive, and now harder and harder to find. If you didn't maintain them you ran the risk of landing with a locked wheel.
Otherwise, no reason...

Ditto on everything my fellow moderator John has said.
To be honest with you, one of my 140A’s has Goodyear wheels and brakes, and trying to find brake pucks and other associated parts is a real challenge not to mention the costs are ridiculous these days for those items. Cleveland wheels and brakes on the other hand are well worth the expense in the long run. Replacement components are readily available, and are not near as cost intimidating as some of those Goodyear parts no longer produced.
