Aileron control rod connection screw

I recall someone saying here that the latest part number (for the screw connecting the rod to the aileron) has a smaller head than the original screw. Is this true? Should I find a different fastener for it than the catalog item?

I had to remove my aileron to get at the outside flap hinge (for some reason one wing had nutplates for the flap screws but the other side has nuts and washers holding flap hinges on). Anyway the aileron control rod screw was really rusted on the end and I more or less destroyed the head in order to get enough torque on it to remove the nut over the corroded threads.

So the question is: what screw should I use to replace it?

Thanks for any thoughts,
Karl

Here is an older thread on that exact issue:

Thanks. I guess I will have to find some of those Tinnerman washers somewhere.

This place was nice to deal with:

Spruce did not have the screw in the proper length. Lots of places want you to buy a box of 100. This Edwards Jet Center guy called me up to confirm the order and asked me how I wanted it shipped as he was fishing through his parts rack. FYI.

Anyone know what size these little nut plates are for the flap hinge bolts to screw into? Thanks

Thank you. One wing doesn't have any! Looks like the other might be cherry max or similar.

Ok so Univair has them superceded by MS21047-L3, which seems to not have an elastomeric lock, but rather is all metal. I seem to recall people not liking nylock hardware for these blind applications, as they are only good for a few uses. So I will go for the metal ones I think: https://www.wicksaircraft.com/shop/anch ... g-ms21047/

How often are you going to take the flaps off?

AN366F-1032 supersedes to MS21078-3

Oddly, if you look that number up on Univair's web site it shows a Luscombe tail bulkhead, which includes one MS21078-4...
