How to put Cessna 140 85hp on floats

Post by alan »

Hello everyone,
I was hoping to talk to a few people that have done this or know how to. If you have any floats for sale as well or rigging.
From what I see edo 1320's or 1400's would be best. I think the 1650's will work with 85 hp but not very well.
Will probably have to make my own parts for the 140 to attach the floats and I see you need the V brace for better support.
I found one person that used 1400's so will probably aim for those in case the 1320's are too light. Anyone confirm the 1650's would be too heavy?

If you haven’t already done so, take a look at the Type Certificate Data Sheet for your aircraft, A-768. Univair has a good library, here’s the link,https://dyzz9obi78pm5.cloudfront.net/ap ... rev-35.pdf. TCDS shows only Edo 92-1400’s and 88-1650 floats are approved for installation. Additionally, take a look at these past posts concerning float installation on the Cessna 140/120.

Not saying that 1320’s can not be used, but you’ll have to have an STC to do so.

Thank you, I have read those two threads a dozen times already :) It looks like the 1400's are the ideal floats for this airplane and you can 337 to use a 85 hp instead of a 90 hp or greater. Which would be good for me. Hoping someone with the floats or riggings or etc see's this post.
