Hi there , 1947 140 , was taking apart the inverted fuel strainer to clean screen , noticed in the manual there is a spring listed figure 44-30 pn k2205a...mine seems to be missing , anybody have any knowledge on this or where I can get one thx

Just to clarify, you’re looking for the filter screen in the gascolator, correct?

Our good friends over at the International Cessna 170 Association have mentioned that the screen as listed in the parts manual has been superceded to p/n 33-199-907. I’m sure they would ask a pretty penny for it. Checking on Ebay would be a good place to start.

It appears to be about .5" wide by about .75" tall give or take, here's what I have in mine, it's sole purpose is to keep a little pressure against the screen from on top of the glass bowl-

Thats perfect information for the spring, thanks David so much , and Im guessing that the slot offset in the standpipe is where a piece of the bottom of spring sits to hold it that way at bottom which would then center the top of the spring at the bottom of the glass? Or does it encircle the standpipe? Thanks Jim my filter is actually decent but thats also good to know, I was concerned about the spring holding that filter down.

Good question, here's what I've been doing for 30 years, just copied the last guy. Hope I got it right! Spring centered on standpipe...

Yes David so as in your picture, I have seen evidence of the spring from pics of filter tops and wear, that it appears from the wear marks on the top of the filters that some people had them around the standpipe such as yours , and others had them half circle through the standpipe cutouts that I am guessing would center the spring more in the centre of the bottom of the glass in the inside for a more even pressure , it looks like I will do some homework when I take it apart again to replace that missing spring. That spring presses the bottom of the screen against the gasket and is critical for preventing water and unscreened (I hesitate to use "unfiltered") fuel from getting to the carburetor.
