I had some rust on the triangular brace where it attaches to the posterior strut left wing on 1946 140. I unbolted it, removed superficial rust, primed it, painted the area and had a heck of a time rebolting it. The bolt I took out was slightly bent so I think there was a prior difficulty. Is the positioning of the brace on the strut likely to cause a problem with flight characteristics?

The strut itself is adjustable, so a slight error in positioning the bracket shouldn't be an issue. Just make sure nothing else is damaged in there. Your butt is hanging from that bracket...
