Cost & challenges on an O-290 conversion

Curious if anyone on here has actually done the O-290 conversion on a plane they have owned?
I am debating on focusing on buying a really clean aiframe and interior plane with a mid to high time C-85 and getting some use out of it while I save up for an O-290 and some floats down the road.
But of course, everything from the cost of buying the STC, to the engine itself and installation costs make me wonder...
