Well, here I am back with another plea for information. Today I discovered the rubber boots covering the universal joints are shot, as might be expected considering their advanced age. Replacement joints that include the boots are readily available from Spruce, however they must be made from unobtainium, since they are listed at $265.
I’m assuming others have run into this situation, and am hoping someone might be aware of a more reasonable source of just the rubber boots.

Re: Control Yoke Universal Joint Rubber Boot
If your joints are in sound condition and you only need the rubber sleeve, McFarlane has the part (MC6183 FAA/PMA) listed for $4.95 each.
That’s the good news, now for the “Grey Area”, McFarlane’s FAA/PMA documents for the rubber sleeve don’t list anything older then a Cessna 150A. However, the control yoke universal joint is the same part number as used on the C-120/140 and is listed in McFarlane’s documents for the MC0411257 part. If your A&P has issues with using the sleeve you might have him call McFarlane and talk to one of their engineers. I’ve talked with them before, they are very helpful.
Hope this helps.

Looks like a short piece of 3/4" fuel line to me...
No PMA, but Lovejoy makes an industrial u-joint that's the same as the Apex aviation part, and they sell replacement boots, although they get aviation prices for them. ~$60/pr. https://www.mscdirect.com/product/details/35408368
