The horizontal line of rivets that run from the door to the tail on the top and bottom of the fuselage splice plates have a 3/32" shank with a 1/8" head.

Has anyone been able to find a source for the rivets? I have not contacted Cessna, but have been unable to find a source via a Google search and the popular parts vendors.

I've talked with a couple of IA's that have replaced the splices and they have used 1/8" rivets. I'm expecting to use them too, but thought I would check here about getting the original size rivets.

Wow............good luck. About your only ............ok.......not "only" but probably best option would be to scour small airports and find old guys that have been doing sheet metal for a long time. They may have old sizes still laying around.

Our vertical fins had "brazier head rivets" which had a very prominent head (taller), can't find those any more either.

I'm not sure I understand the question...

3/32" inch rivets are readily available. The head is going to be a little bigger, 3/16", I think, but if you go to 1/8" rivets the head will be a lot bigger (1/4").

(Are you sure the originals are only 1/8" heads? That doesn't seem right... Shop heads are supposed to be 1.5d, or 9/64".)

I may have few. They were in my Dad’s collection. Probably not near enough to do that job.

John (6643) ...yes the rivets have a shank of 3/32" with the head of a 1/8" rivet. You'd have to crawl into the tail cone to see the shop heads or drill off the heads and punch the rivets out to find out! Don't go back to the tail end if you have claustrophobia!

Randy, I've got to get back to you for the O-200 STC, so I'll also visit with you about the rivets. I just need enough to do some skin replacement repairs.

OK, that's different. Then, why fight it? Use the 1/8" rivets.

IIRC those special rivets even required a special gun set that was more flatter but similar to the 8th inch head. Ill be by the shop later and get a pic of the rivets and gun set as well as rivet number. When I redid my plane thought I used regular #4 rivets on that splice, you have more than enough edge distance. Hard to tell appearance wise unless you really know 140’s really good.

They are AN455AD series rivets. I want to say AN455AD3-3 don’t quote me on that though I lost the receipt. The gun set part number is CA1001-1 3/32 AN455. I obtained the rivets and gun set from Hanson Rivet and Supply company. They have good dimensional charts to get what you need. In both pics the AN455 (left) and AN470 (right) rivet and gun set heads.

Thanks Art for the information, I appreciate it. I will try to get with Cessna and confirm these are the rivets they used. If they can't confirm it, I'll just go with the AD4.

John, I agree...it would be easier just to go with the AD4 rivet!
