Source for 140 parts? Need a bushing...

Howdy All,

My 140 just started its annual inspection. Everything looks pretty good except the right fuel gauge does not work.

The "central column mounting bearings" seem wobbly and I'd like to tighten that up. Who might have or make those bushings?

Other than that, the cowling is pretty beat up and I'd like to replace the rusty, leaking oil filler cap/dipstick.

As the inspection continues, I,m sure I'll need more. I remember seeing a source for lots of NOS C-140 parts online somewhere, eBay maybe.

Does anyone have some good links to where I can shop for parts in the future?

Do you have any part numbers so we can be certain what you're looking for? Parts book is in the members only section of the Library if you don't have one.

If you mean the bearings at the base of the control T that allow it to move fore and aft, they're off-the-shelf Torrington bearings. If you have side to side slop of the T itself the problem could be elongated holes in the structure it mounts too.

According to the parts manual, for a 1946:

Fuel gauge: A21-2216 with decal, 10008-7 (No takeoff warning)

Bearing, Torrington, B610X.

There are 12 oil filler caps/dipstick listed. No listing of which one is for a C-140 landplane...

Notes:
2. C85-12J Cessna (5qt sump) 649608-26 Notes 2, 152. Rod and cap assemblies that contain a leaf spring use P/N 533355 gasket (1/8 inch thick).
Rod and cap assemblies that contain a coil spring use P/N 633240 gasket (1/16 inch thick).
Rod and cap assemblies P/N 649608 and 652171 use gasket P/N 642892.
Oil gauge rod P/N 632062 uses “O” ring P/N MS 9021-011.

5. Use with P/N A5230 oil sump.
Oil sump P/N 530091 is identical to P/N A5230 except for addition of an oil drain back connection. Use P/N
649608-16 oil gauge rod with P/N 530091 oil sump.

Bottom line, you can probably use just about any of them if you remark them for the actual quantity. It should be marked with the correct total capacity, though.

The fuel gauge is available from Aircraft Spruce. You need the 1/4 tank warning. Parts are available from anyone who services propane tanks.

No, I need the one at the bottom of the elevator vertical arm.

I'll probably install some of those pretty soon, though. I had them in my 120....
