Rudder Horn to Steering Spring
From Neil Wrights great information on Tailwheel springs I find myself with 3 options to replace the worn out Cessna preferred stress relief tab riveted to the rudder horn.(I think). The steering spring has worn the hole to the point where it needs replacement. Question: Since the two holes are already there holding the tab, am I committed to a new tab....or....is the shackle with bolt hole......or....an AN 42-6 eyebolt with it's required hole in the horn.....viable options. Have read that the eyebolt puts a rotational movement on the rudder horn. Shackle used on older models,

Univair has the "Cessna preferred tab" for $ 9.50 ea. P/N U0433113-2. going with that.

The eyebolts are part of the Scott 3200 installation. Unless specified otherwise, the steel tabs are correct of all others.
IMHO, most rudder bellcrank damage comes from unsecured rudders banging up against the stops in the wind.

This one seems more like 72 years of wear on the tab, It's been hangared for the past 30.

Yeah, that's normal. What I was referring to was your mention of "the eyebolt puts a rotational movement on the rudder horn."

Hi John, re your comment about the AN42-6 Eyebolt being part of the Scott 3200 Tail wheel Assembly: My 120 was fitted with the 3200 many years ago but the Cessna riveted tabs were retained. To be technically correct I should now replace the tabs (they are worn out) with Eyebolts. Is it just the AN42 with AN 960 washer and nut in either of the two rivet holes (increased to 3/16)? or am I missing something.

No, the eye bolt replaces the clevis bolt holding the rudder cable to the horn, as pictured above. The spring connects directly to the eye bolt without the shackle shown.
