Wheel Pants

I'm just about to fit a set of metal wheel pants...

They have a metal, what looks to be a mud guard, to the rear of the pant...

Do I fit this part?

Just wondering if they cause any problems with dirt getting trapped between it and the wheel?

Many thanks

On the pair I have they both are equipped with the scrapper/guard you're asking about. You are correct they are supposed to help mud and debris from being collected inside the pant; however, you still need to do some occasional cleaning inside the pants.

I am fitting a pair of original wheel pants onto my C140A. I have most of the parts but I would like to know what the scraper parts look like as they are missing. I intend to fabricate those if I can find a diagram.
Does anyone have a diagram of the scraper parts on the wheel Fairing?

I don’t intend to squawk 7500 your thread but I have a related question:
Will wheel pants fit on planes that have the extension plates that move the wheels forward of the gear a few inches?
Thanks

I don’t think so.

Agree, Mike. ...best I recall and "way back" before I removed the extenders I attempted to dry-fit my newly acquired wheel pants. Installation with extenders in place would have required quite a bit of cutting and fitting (of the new pants  ). Since I was already planning to remove the extenders it was a no brainer to wait to install the pants sans extenders. Mac

Is there any advantage to the extenders? What exactly are they for?
If I do remove them, will I need any additional components or is it as simple as removing them and bolting everything back up?
Thanks

NO. (IMHO...) They negatively affect ground handling and roll out. Rumor has it they can lead to cracking in the rear bulkhead area and tailwheel attach bracket.

They move the main gear farther forward of the CG, making it harder for you to stand the plane on it's nose by slamming on the brakes or muffing a bounced landing.

You will likely need different length bolts. You may have to reconfigure the brake lines, too. You should also check the alignment after you remove them.
