Value of original wheel pants

Post by 8322 »

What’s a reasonable price for a set of original wheel pants in good shape? They are painted.

I have mine but I love the 800s and don’t ever see doing a full historically restoration... I’m thinking they may be better appreciated by someone else, and I could use the funds for some other upgrade(s) I would use and enjoy

A bit odd the seller left the Cessna pick tag in place. Clearly evident the list price is $204.00. So, $4,800 is a bit of a stretch. Back in the middle 1980s, Tom Hull, (RIP), President of the Cessna 170 club negotiated a deal with Cessna for new, original wheel pants, including backing plates and axle nuts for $500, if he could get 100 firm orders. He did. I bought two sets. Put one set on my 1946 C-140, and years later, sold the other set to a friend, John Ames, for $500. He intended to install them on his rag wing C-140. Never did. John removed his 140s wings for recover. After 8 years sitting in his garage, he lost interest, and parted out his 140. I wouldn't doubt that those are the ones I sold to John, as he was living in SoCal at the time.

Marked down to $153...

At least he had the decency to only charge $9.30 for shipping...
