NAS 205 Screw source
Looking for a source for the NAS 205-19 screw used to connect the Heim joint to the aileron. The NAS 205-19 callout in our parts book may be superseded. Thanks, Jim

I show it supersedes to MS24694, and I think the dash numbers should be the same, but I'm not positive.

Thanks John, that explains a few things. Wing was dissembled when I started my project and I found only one screw for the aileron - Heim connection . When inserted it lays shallow (that's what made me think I had the wrong screw). No cracks at this time but I think I'll try my hand at making a shim. Thanks for the news clip.

A 100 degree SS CSK washer, carefully "machined" down to fit the screw head & hinge countersink...fit/shim depth is "perfect". While I can't guarantee that it's acceptable in every case, I know at least one IA who saw it as "minor". It's easy (...well, relatively) to file the outer edge off the washer to the point that it fits both screw head & hinge countersink.. FWIW, this "repair" has been known to last for 20+ years with no indication of wear. (Yikes...this one needs cleaning up just a bit!)

That's called a "Tinnerman Washer" and it's perfect for the purpose! you will have to cut it down flush, though, or it may catch on the rib.

Would anyone happen to know the exact MS24694- dash number would be? I don't have my screw out of the aileron fitting and want to have something on hand before I start inspecting. Can't get a good measure on the grip while it's on the wing....thanks!

I could tell you if I had the spec sheet for the NAS205. Unfortunately, I haven't been about to find out a single thing about it.
I can make an "educated" guess, based on patterns between dash numbers for AN, NAS and MS screws. If you think the grip length (the height of the head plus the length of the unthreaded portion) might be 3/4", then the dash number would be -61. AN509-19 crosses to MS24694-61.

That's what I came up with for a best guess crossing to an AN509-19 then to the MS24694-61. With the cup washer I think I'll still be OK. Guess I needed someone's blessings-
