Changing rubber engine mounts C85

Post by per ardua ad astra »

About to change my rubber engine mounts. Can’t find any real guidance. Obviously I’ll be supporting the engine with an engine crane, but I’m interested to hear from anyone who has done this. I’m wondering whether ‘tail up’ or ‘tail down’ is best whilst shuffling the engine back and forth?

Any other top tips extremely gratefully received!

Many thanks.

Tail up.
That way engine will be level with the airframe.

It's a little more convenient for most people if the tail is up. The engine will be level and not as high up. That said, there's not much shuffling required.

Competed the change today. Tail up worked very well indeed. Thanks for your help.

Continental (Part #22387) -- fits: A65, A75, C75, C85, C90, O-200-A, B - 8 required @ $4.35 each (Aircraft Spruce); Also, Superior has PMA'd (same # with SA in front)....and, other suppliers (Wag, Wicks, Fresno, Univair, etc. & etc.) have for similar prices. There are Ebay sellers with them represented as NOS, too, FWIW. The Cessna parts catalogue calls for "spacers" (Pt. # 0450195)...difficult to find, difficult to fit, and many (most?) are reportedly installed now without. Mac

Avoid NOS (New Old Stock) parts. Old parts is what you want to replace!
