I am in the process of rebuilding the starter and I’m wondering if anyone has any suggestions on the best way to go about removing the old seals and bushings .

This is in the members section if that helps. Hopefully you don't have to mess with the Rolite bearings and just have to change out seals.

are you sure you want to put that much effort in? Just a thought, mine went bad and I changed to a Skytec and wow! 6 or 8lbs gone and it spins the prop like no ones business... I know they are't cheap but mine sure works nice!

My 120 is having a starter problem. Occasionally when I try to start, I just hear a grinding noise and the engine doesn't turn over. After a few tries, I'm able to get started. An A&P who is familiar with the old-style pull cable starters tells me I will need a new gear for the starter. Any suggestions as to where to look for one of those gears?? Thanks.

First make sure the cable is properly adjusted. There is a Continental service bulletin on this, and a Cessna bulletin referencing the Continental one.

If you need a new drive gear, Niagara Airparts can supply one. However, at that point you may want to look at replacing the whole thing with a more modern one from SkyTech or B&C.

I recently had the same drip, drip, drip from my old DELCO starter. The
plunger seal had a crack. I found the correct seals at FRESNO AIRPARTS.
Very cordial, knew exactly what I was requesting and it came in the mail
in just 2 days to South Texas.
