CFI C140 MN or WI

Post by retpocileh »

Hi All,

I am a new member and a brand new owner of a 1946 C140! I need to find a CFI to get my tailwheel endorsement (I have 0 hours) and I also need 10 hours and 10 landings for insurance. I figure it makes sense to get that all done at once. I am based in the Minneapolis area but am willing to travel for training. I am willing to do the training in my aircraft, but it is currently hangared at 3WN9 and I am unable to fly it out so any CFI would have to be willing to meet me there or provide a 140.

I have checked the directory as well and reached out to several CFIs listed in the area. I am posting here to get more visibility and find help that might not be listed there.

Thanks all!

I took lessons off of Tom Schmelzer back in 2004 in my 140, he owned a 120/140 as I recall. I believe he is in the Circle Pines area.

If you are close to the Twin Cities, you could call Stanton Airfield (KSYN, Stanton, MN) as they have several tailwheel CFIs available. If they can't help you out, send me an email (check the directory) and I know two other CFIs (one at KFBL and one at KOWA) that are tailwheel people.

Call Gibson Aviation in Menomonie, WI (KLUM). Gerry Smith is an instructor there, he gave me and my and son our Flight reviews in the 120. Very capable, qualified, and knowledgable CFI. You'll love working with him. Tom
