Broken aileron pulley bracket, 0411534

I found a broken aileron pulley bracket. Scary. Is this a common failure? And are there replacement parts available?

Looks like it’s been broken for a while and the cable has been dragging on the right side.

I agree with Randy. Good thing you caught it before your next flight. What made you check on it? I've got replacements though.

25 hours ago I removed all the pulleys, cleaned and lubricated the bushing, and replaced the fasteners. Then rigged the aileron travel and set tension to roughly 1/2 of the factory recommendation. In my most recent flight, I felt like something had changed. I was unhappy with the roll response, high friction, high backlash, and sluggish response. This is the result of my investigation.

Also, I just removed the counterpart bracket. It appears to have a crack in the same area.

This is a "somewhat" common failure. Years ago there was an article in the newsletter about this situation.

As you can see the nut fits tightly inside the bracket as it's held to the fuselage. I can't recall, but I believe the concern was the washers sometimes had sharp edges that started a stress line in the bracket. I'll see if I can dig that one up.

I check mine each annual. If you don't mind, can I use your picture(s?) and write an article about it, since it's been years that this was last brought up.
