I recently purchased a 1946 Cessna 140. One question I have is related to the gas caps.
My 140 has the fully vented caps BUT have the "scoop". It is my understanding that it is recommended to replace them with fully vented caps without the scoop due to it being harder to inspect that there is nothing blocking the scoops and inflight water ingestion (among other things).
I ordered new caps from aircraft spruce (https://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/ ... lange2.php) PN: 05-01058. This cap only has one hole. Do I need to drill another similarly sized hole in the cap so it is closer to the original cap from Cessna or is this cap good to go out of the box?

Re: 1946 140 Fully Vented Gas Cap Replacement Question
My IA came up with this solution, put rivets in like original and drill 2 holes .125". I think we had some concern that the electrowelds might be compromised so added the rivets. Looks and functions as original.
I cannot tell what the Spruce product really looks like. You may want to converse with your mechanic. Proper venting is a big deal with our birds.

I found this online, have not checked the dimensions yet. Would need 2 drilled 1/8" vent holes and 2 rivets. I will measure mine when I get to the hangar next.

Re: 1946 140 Fully Vented Gas Cap Replacement Question
We ended up getting an aircraft spruce vented gas cap (https://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/ ... lange2.php) and boring out the single hole to 1/8 inch then adding a second 1/8 inch hole beside it. It works like a charm!
