STC for lower gross weight
My airplane has an STC to operate at lower gross weight. What was this for. To operate in light sport category?

Re: STC for lower gross weight
Our own member David Lowe was issued an STC to operate at 1320 lbs maximum gross weight under LSA rules. This STC was issued prior to the final rule for LSA. When the final rule came out, it contained wording that invalidated the STC. I'm guessing that is what you must have. If so, its only value is as a novelty, unfortunately.
The good news is it looks like the LSA category will soon be expanded to cover a lot more aircraft, including the C120/140s.
I'm curious, do you know who owned your plane in 2004, when the category was first approved?

Thanks for your help. I believe in 2004 the owner was Robert Ray.

Re: STC for lower gross weight
Is there a target date for the LSA weight expansion to cover our 120 and 140 birds?

Was Robert Ray in the Chicago area? I bought my first RV7 kit from the widow of a Robert Ray around that timeframe - maybe a little later.

Robert Ray whom we called Bob was a long time Florida member of the Cessna 120-140 Association. Bob's airplane was the only C-140 I've ever seen that had flush rivets utilized on the wing skins instead of universal round head rivets when a previous owner installed the then popular STC to replace wing fabric with metal. If memory serves me that job was performed by a company in Tallahassee, FL. Bob passed away a few years ago, and his son Robert Ray Jr. is called Rob. Rob Ray is a retired USAF pilot and Southwest Airlines Captain, and yes, he did own an RV-4 that he flew for many years.
Your airplane was based at Yellow River Airpark in Florida (south west of KCEW) for many years where Bob had a nice a hanger along with another long time Association member Tom Julian who used to work on several member's C-140 aircraft owned by past Association VP Reddoch Williams, and past Association President Mac Forbes. When Bob owned it, I believe he installed an 0-200, and the color of the airplane was silver with green trim.
