Boot Stringer Discussion

C-FXZQ 1946 Cessna 140

Could some of you kindly look at your bottom boot stringers and see if they have this deformity? And if anyone has worked on them, please lend some experience.

I suspect it’s from a nose over many decades ago and after a hanger collapse, one side has become more pronounced and cause this oil canning & dimple on the outside.

I’d like to fix it

I have some of the Boot cowl stringer parts if needed !

If You can find a pre-owned Boot cowl complete to replace your bent-up one , that would be one way to repair your plane.

Or You can install used stringers with New sheet metal to form the Boot Cowl !

Hoping to get used stringers from John and may be able to use a doubler to get the tin canning out of the boot.

Suggest you try using a c clamp to squeeze the existing deformation to the stringer back into the original position. Said action may also relieve the sheet metal stress and it may move back out. Do the process in very small increments rather than just all at once. Similar process as used to straighten bent tubing on fabric covering aircraft.

A common look when an airplane has been up on its nose. Look for other damage.
