Maule Tailwheel Failure / Scott 3200 Replacement Parts

Post by vindio »

Hello all,

Looking for all the parts required to swap from a maule tailwheel to a Scott 3200. We just had our leafspring on our maule tailwheel collapse on landing so I'm thinking this is a good time to make the switch. I've included screenshots of what's in the cart now.

Thanks

Not an answer to your question, but, could you tell me if this plane has extenders on the front wheels?

Looks like there's a few parts missing where the bolt holds the front of the springs to the tail wheel bracket. Check the Neal Wright article for details.

I wonder why the official Scott install says AN7-20 (a drilled bolt) but also says to use the 365 self locking nut....

I'm guessing the nut that holds the spring stack together in the front finally gave up the ghost. I check that on every pre-flight. Don't ask me why......

I would use a -20A bolt.

I use and undrilled -20A and a metal locking nut AN363-720

Scott tension springs used on your Maule?

What is that mounting angle piece for that I circled.

Check for cracks on your tailwheel bracket where the springs pivoted.

The "what is this for" is the bracket the bolt passes through.

Of course you can just go with the Scott 3200, it’s a good unit you might also consider this: https://alaskagearcompany.com/collectio ... l-assembly

It’s a PMA replacement for the Scott. Read the description to see why you might use this over the actual Scott.
