I've emailed Sierra hotel twice in the last 6 months about a L R Off valve and they havent responded...

I have not received a response from them either. I notice a small seep when I initially select a tank but it doesn't continue after a selection has been made.

I see that. We wouldn't be doing our due diligence as "cheap skate pilots" , as Paul Bertorelli says, if we didn't look into every option.

Also look at Aircraft Spruce, they sell the same valve also(plus others). Rather pricey in some minds, but affordable compared to the cost of the airplane in today's prices.

I've tried to contact Sierra Hotel repeatedly with no response. For what it's worth, Andair in the UK is who makes the valves (Experimental). I guess I'm going to Univair.

I too, tried to contact Sierra Hotel by both email and telephone and have had no luck in getting anyone to answer. After no contact with SH I called David Lowe and spoke with him about the SH/Andair Valve as well as other options available. Sierra Hotel has is STC’d with the FAA which just about makes it almost impossible to obtain a 337-field approval if you were to purchase the Andair Valve used on experimental aircraft direct from Aircraft Spruce. However, David did mention that an Association member, William Bo Mabry in South Carolina did obtain a field approval on a 337 for the Andair Valve before Sierra Hotel was granted the STC. David mentioned it might be a long shot, but a copy of Bo’s 337 field approval may work to get an Andair valve approved on another aircraft, but it would be at the discretion of the FAA office in your region to approve it. Another option would be the valve listed under "Cessna Fuel Valve" available from Univair or Aircraft Spruce which is a PMA’d part as a direct replacement for the original valve used in the Cessna 120/140, but not the 140A or some 140 models with the L-R-Both-Off configuration. Univair’s valve only has L-R-Off. At Spruce the valve lists today for $661 while Univair is $653.

One item to consider with the Univar valve. It's FAA-PMA'd for any engine on the Type Certificate. So, the C-85, C90, Lyc-O-235. IF you have an O-200, you will need to get a Field Approval to install it. (O-200) is not the on the Type Certificate.

When I spoke to the Engineer at Univair about this years ago, the FAA specifically made them include the "Only Engines on the Type Certificate" wording.

How many is "enough"?

I got an answer. I would need at least 30 firm orders to make it worthwhile for me and them.

It could be any combination of L-R-Off, L-R-Both-Off and the 140A variant.

I'm not holding my breath.

John...mark me down for a L,R,Both,Off for my 140A. I agree, probably a long shot, but now you only need 29!
