Re: ADSB
...a related update on this thread: While there are no doubt other "bundle" options for those who may need/want to replace their transponder along with installing the Garmin GDL 82, Advantage Aviation out in Chino is offering one with a serviceable GTX 327. The current price for both a new GDL 82 and a "tagged" GTX 327 is $2350.00 + $24.00 shipping. The fact that it comes from a well respected Avionics shop (that's related to Aircraft Spruce) & is known to be extremely well managed was a plus for me in deciding to do biz, 'though please understand that I'm not "selling" anything. FWIW. Mac

Re: ADSB
Is there any company out there that is working on a stand alone adsb out for our type of plane besides Skybeacon and Garmin GDL82. I haven't heard of any.

Re: ADSB
While nothing specific, in talking to the iFly folks at Sun-N-Fun they seemed pretty enthusiastic with predictions that some even more innovative "out" products (maybe even than SkyBeacon?) are to roll out "soon"...not just in their own product area but with others similar. Conversely, in talking to several of the longer established companies, they indicated that the current products are selling so well (with 2020 getting closer every day) that they don't see a "need" or expectation for much more innovation and price breaks. It will be interesting to see what new surprises may come @ OSH. Mac

Re: ADSB
My guess is that, if someone like SkyBeacon comes out with a low cost alternative, that indication will change rapidly. As the pool of "got to have it" and "Need Part 135 certification" owners dwindles, the only buyers left will be us "bottom feeders" who only want compliance at a reasonable cost.
'Course, then, demand will outstrip supply, quality will go down, and we'll all end up with defective units...

Re: ADSB
The "evolution" is interesting and a bit exciting to watch (except for the pinch I'm feeling on my wallet ). That there's "politics" in play with FAA "certification" is probably something we'd all expect, 'though we'd hope they're above it. You're so right, John, in that we're at the end of the line and likely to be the last (least important/profitable?) market to be served. We all kinda grew up believing that "TSO'd" guaranteed quality, but the real world realization proves different. Just maybe, this whole NexGen thing & safe operation is so important that dependability/quality will be at the top of every inventor/manufacturer's list. Finally, it's true: If God had intended us to fly he'd have given us MUCH more money! (I apologize for drifting away from "technical" ). Mac

Re: ADSB
My guess is that the deadline will be extended. Compliance will not be possible for the number of airplanes involved.

Re: ADSB
I don't know... The FAA has been adamant that that is not a possibility. My guess: the planes that "need" to be compliant will be and the rest of us will have to stay out in the boonies where we "belong"...

Re: ADSB
Some of us are lucky. Here in the midwest we can avoid the current proposed restrictions and still get a lot of flying in. I don't think the feds will change their mind and we will have to live with the conquinces.

Re: ADSB
Is there a consensus on the best place to install the GPS antenna? Most practical, easy to get to, etc,,
Thanks
