Visited Ken and Lorraine at Taildraggers a few weeks ago, what a great operation they have there. Saw a 140 that they have in-work that will be brought to Oshkosh Lorraine said, to demonstrate propping at the Red Barn. Will look forward to that. Worked with Lorraine to choose some materials and left the seats for her to reupholster. She believed that they were original, right down to the horse hair filling.
Also had the opportunity to visit Jeff Tourt over in Sandwich IL and to see his well prepared 140 there (See the June Calendar picture). Jeff has been very helpful primarily with questions I've had on paintwork, as he runs a very nice body shop operation over his way. It was a great visit.

Continued to re-assemble some items. I rebuilt the Gascolator and Primer, two easy tasks. Both were in great shape, just needed gaskets and O-rings etc..
Also installed the brake master cyl's.

Working on firewall covering. Lorraine at Taildragger fixed me up with some material and glue, and drew the basic pattern on the piece for me. I made a cardboard final pattern to mark my specific needed openings, and used scissors and carpet knife to final cut the firewall cover. Ready to glue in.

A&P Ray removed the door glass pieces. .060" Lexan will be cut to replace them. And Helper Greg cleaned up the original Scott tail wheel, will get some new parts for it and rebuild.
Next step is the electrical wiring. We've drawn up a schematic and have an EE helping us to spec the wire, switches, CB's etc. Coming up soon.

Hey Kazoo120,
DON"T use Lexan! Use acrylic! Lexan is soft and hard to repair and very easy to scratch. Acrylic is harder, easier to polish and repair and in the event of a roll over you can break it to get out.
Trust me, I thought the same thing on the thought that Lexan (polycarbonate) would be better. Now i wish i would have listened to the ole' timers and put acrylic in.

Lexan also degrades when gas is spilled on it.

Disassembled the gauge panel yesterday. Someone made a pretty rough cutout to put a 7 O'Clock altimeter in, so will have to figure out a way to fix the appearance of that. Planning to add a rate of climb/descent gauge and a turn coordinator to what was originally installed by the factory. And replace all but the tach and compass with new I think. Wondering what gauges look most like the original..?

Had the opportunity to fly over to Houghton Lake airport here in Michigan, for the Michigan chapter C120/140 fly-in there. We came in a 172 piloted by a co-worker friend, and another 172 that another co-worker owns joined us as well. 5 C120/140's came in and Dick Acker was there from the club.
It was a very nice get-together, and I took the opportunity to find out as much as I could about what guys have done with their planes. I won't be able to get to the National convention very unfortunately, because of schedule conflicts, so this was an opportunity to see some aircraft and members.
I was amazed to hear passing comment that there was still a perception around, that N77220 had been in poor condition and not worth the auction price, I hope that this thread shows how great a restoration project, and find, this bird has been. I'm thoroughly enjoying the process of bringing this classic plane, back to flightworthiness!
