Back to the firewall covering install. It is the Airtex "Flint" foam backed carpeting.
Wife Karen helped me with the firewall install, We first rough cut the carpeting material per an outline or pattern that Lorraine Morris had traced right onto the carpet material. Then made a cadboard pattern from it, that we held in place on the inside while we marked all of our exact hole locations from the outside. Then used that cardboard pattern to finalize the carpet cutting. We left the lower edge long and final trimmed down to the rudder bar shields after the main piece was glued in.
The hard part was holding the carpet to the firewall in the vertical to start gluing it in, not enough hands! So we used some 1/4" bolts with large fender washers through several of the holes, to hold the carpet in place, then we started at the top and glued it in sections. We're having a good time figuring things out as we go, I've never done any of this so each part of this resto is a new challenge. If it's not perfect in spots, at least I did it myself, which is really the goal of this entire project.
So with the firewall carpet now in place, we can continue the assembly under the panel and running cables through the firewall, and ti install the pedal assy install, etc!

Finally, the rudder pedal re-install! I've had the pedal assy rebuilt for months, but it would have been in the way for other work if I had reinstalled it beforehand.
If you haven't had the pleasure of installing the 10-32 nuts on the rudder bar clamps, you owe it to yourself to give it a try. Be sure no children are around.
Starting to look like an airplane cockpit again!
Some airplane activity coming up this week. Today on the 4th there's an airshow in Battle Creek, Mi which is very nearby to us, sans the military air show this year, and on Saturday there's a steak fly-in at Watervliet Mi. airport (40C) that we'll drive to. http://www.eaa585.org/Calendar.aspx

Looks good. I am a huge fan of nutplates to mount the rudders.

Looking great! You and Karen are doing a fantastic job. Once I shed the 'crud bug' that attacked me, I'll check with you about another quick visit.
In regard to using Acrylic window material, keep in mind that it is also available in "scratch resistant". I used it in past homebuilt projects and noticed a significant difference between it and the standard. I purchased mine from Total Plastics Inc. there in Kalamazoo. I believe they got it from their warehouse in Grand Rapids.

A little interior work this week. Gluing carpet to the tunnel and rudder bar shields. Will trim after the glue sets abit.
Oshkosh is coming up, planning to drive there with a pop-up for a few days. Hopefully Lorraine from Taildragger will have my seat cushions, seat back, and lower front L/R panels ready to pickup from her there!
Will make new upper door jamb trim panels. The original were a brown vinyl glued to a backing and screwed into place. I used a heat gun to remove the vinyl pieces and will use the backing as a pattern to make new, and will buy some Airtex vinyl to remake them.

Took a week off for some vacationing in Colorado. Drove up Pikes Peak and Rocky Mtn. Nat'l park. Looks like some beautiful flying opportunities there.

On to landing gear disassembly. Am removing the old Goodyear brakes, I have a set of Parker Clevelend brake conversions coming (I work for a division of Parker). All fasteners came off very easily.
Will remove the extenders, after much reading about them. My considerations in finality were about ground handling with them installed, and that they put adverse torsion into the gear box. I will learn to fly this plane without them.
Off to Oshkosh this week, will make the Thursday dinner and looking forward to meeting up with org members!

Made the trip to Oshkosh, had a great time and attended the 120/140 dinner there. Also some great forums. Picked up the seat back, cushions and front side panels from Lorraine Morris (Taildragger aviation) while there. Top quality stuff. They brought a 140 to the show that won a Lindy.

Another adventure for this restoration! An 0-200 engine rebuilt, 0 SMOH. Owner decided not to finish a 140 project near Gainesville, so we headed off to buy this rebuilt engine with new cyls, mags, starter, alternator, prop, mount and many Misc. parts. This will put the project ahead of schedule.

Refurbishing the doors. Painted the original door panels with Vinyl paint. Even got a new key made at a locksmith's for the original door locks. New glass, fasteners and seals. Ready to install.
