Re: Battery Replacement
The charger plug looks like it's been pinched in the box lid. If it cuts through there'll be a fire...

Re: Battery Replacement
Yep, it is getting removed.
I looked through AC43.13-2b and can't find wooden blocks in reference to battery install. Can you point me to the page? I may be just missing it.
Thanks

Re: Battery Replacement
this picture is awesome! thanks for sharing.8233 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 12, 2018 12:03 pm Well, last night was a fun time. I got over the hurdles with my IA re: not needing a 337 for the RG25-XC. I got the new battery and went to put it in and surprise, there was not a Gill G25 even installed even though the last log entry stating a battery was installed was in 2013 and listed as a Gill. It was an Odyssey PC545 and they used a creative solution for keeping the battery in place. I have attached a picture.
Upon looking at the battery box, I think it is bigger than the original one from the factory. Does anyone have dimensions on the correct battery box and how the battery is supposed to be secured? I have not yet dug through the 100 series manual to see if it is like the 150 or not.
I'm putting in the Concorde but will need to solve this somehow. Feedback welcome.
Rucklesnarks! The picture didn't copy, everyone will have to go back to your post..............lessee if I can figure it out.

Re: Battery Replacement
Interestingly enough, several years and 700-800 miles apart, John C and I came to the exact same conclusions (with no collusion) about.6643 wrote: ↑Sat Jun 09, 2018 12:50 pm There have been a lot of reports of short life from Gill batteries. Both of my last two were 3 year batteries. I've heard much better reports from Concord owners.
When my last one went south I decided to replace it with an Odyssey battery. There is one that is PMA approved for use in several Piper models , the SBS J-16, and AC 43.13-2b has a section on battery installations. My IA and PMI both agreed that installation of that battery according to the procedures in AC43.13 constituted a minor modification and could be accomplished with nothing more than a log book entry.
A. Gills
B. Concords
C. Installing Odyssey batteries in 120/140's.
I'll have to add a "Ditto" on this post.

Re: Battery Replacement
David Freeland....From your photo, that is the standard battery box for a Cessna 120-140. I'm a bit older and heavier than previous years, and could not get past the battery box to inspect the aft fuselage interior, pulleys, and lube the pulleys during annual. I used a punch to drive out the hinge pins for the battery box lid, and installed stainless steel clevis "S" pins. Now, I can remove the lid completely to climb over the box. Still not easy, but doable.

Re: Battery Replacement
Finally! It was from my printed (and outdated) copy of AC43.13-2a (not 2b). 2a is (was?) acceptable data, not approved data. That information was deleted from 2B. David (OP) found this:
http://avstop.com/maint/alterations/
It's uncredited, but appears to be a copy of 2a.

Re: Battery Replacement
Thanks John, with that bit of info, I found the copy on the FAA Website. Listed as cancelled of course6643 wrote: ↑Sun Jun 17, 2018 8:45 am Finally! So now it begs the question, why was that bit removed and what are acceptable methods to secure a battery in battery compartment? Did they open up the options with the new language since it's more general and less prescriptive?
Thanks

Re: Battery Replacement
I notice reading excerpts from the 337 some of the cited stc's mention location change, has anyone done that on one of ours? As wouldnt that lighten us even more, and less battery run is always better for battery, and i cant think it would throw CG beyond acceptable limits when some folks have 0290s and such up front...
